About a third of the houses on Cape Cod are seasonal homes, so a lot of Cape junk piles up in places nobody lives in full time. Count On Me! does junk removal on Cape Cod: furniture swaps between rental seasons, summer house and cottage clean-outs, estate clean-outs, garages, sheds and mattresses. We're a family-owned, licensed and insured business based in Assonet, with 5+ years hauling junk on the South Shore. Call or text us a photo, get a price before any work starts, and we carry it all out.

What Cape Cod properties need

Cape Cod is a second-home market. The state counts about 36% of Barnstable County's housing as seasonal, recreational or occasional use, and the Cape Cod Commission puts the range from about 17% in Sandwich to about 71% in Truro. That changes junk removal: the owner is often off-Cape, the house gets opened in spring and closed in fall, and the furniture, mattresses and grills that wear out get replaced on a schedule, not when someone is home to deal with them. Photos are the easiest way to start: we price the job from them, then talk through access with you.

Rentals are the other half. Half of all short-term rentals registered with Massachusetts are in Barnstable County, and about one in ten Cape homes is registered as one. Turnover days are tight. When a rental gets new couches, beds or a deck set, the old ones have to be gone before the next guests arrive. Property managers and owners can set up pickups ahead of the season or on a regular schedule.

Then there are the estate clean-outs: a family cottage that has been filling up for decades, emptied before it's sold or rebuilt. We set aside what the family keeps, pull out what can be donated, and haul the rest off-Cape. Dead hot tubs and weathered outdoor furniture come out the same way.

Cape Cod transfer stations, stickers and bulky items

Each Cape town runs its own transfer station with its own sticker and fee rules, and they don't match. In Barnstable, the Flint Street facility in Marstons Mills has a bulky items area for furniture, mattresses, box springs and sofas; you don't need a sticker for bulky items, but a disposal fee may apply. In Falmouth, you need an annual sticker to drop mattresses and box springs on the upper level of the Waste Management Facility on Thomas B. Landers Road, a single-trip sticker only covers the lower level, and stickers aren't sold at the facility. If you own a summer house in one town and live somewhere else, check whether you count as a resident before you load the car.

Once it leaves your property, Cape trash leaves the Cape. Waste goes through the Yarmouth transfer station, the Upper Cape Regional Transfer Station at Joint Base Cape Cod or Bourne's solid waste facility, then off-Cape to lined landfills or the SEMASS waste-to-energy plant in Rochester, and the Cape Cod Commission reports that town disposal contract prices have roughly doubled in recent years. Massachusetts disposal bans apply here like everywhere else in the state: since November 1, 2022, mattresses, box springs and textiles can't go in the trash, and appliances, TVs and screens, tires, metal and yard waste are banned too. We sort the load so each of those goes to recycling.

What we don't take: household hazardous waste such as oil-based paint, solvents, gasoline, pool chemicals, propane tanks and asbestos. Barnstable County runs free household hazardous waste collection days from spring to fall, open to residents of any Cape town. Empty or dried-out latex paint cans are fine. We don't rent dumpsters or do structural demolition.

What junk removal costs on Cape Cod

The price follows the load: how much space it takes in the truck, how heavy it is, how far we carry it, and whether it includes items that cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like mattresses, TVs and refrigerators. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate and you get the exact price before we start. How pricing works.

Cape Cod junk removal questions

Can I take bulky items to my Cape Cod transfer station?

Usually, if you're a resident with the right sticker and you can fit it in your car. Rules differ by town: Barnstable takes furniture, mattresses and sofas in its bulky items area for a fee, while Falmouth needs an annual sticker for mattresses and doesn't sell stickers at the gate. If it won't fit in your car, or you're not on the Cape, we carry it out and haul it for you.

Can you clear a Cape rental between guests?

Yes, with notice. Tell us your turnover day and what's going: couches, beds, mattresses, patio furniture, broken grills. We give you a price from photos first, then book the pickup inside your window. Owners and property managers who replace furniture every season can set up scheduled pickups so the old pieces are gone before the new ones arrive.

Can you empty a summer house if I live off-Cape?

Yes. Send photos of each room and tell us what stays. We price the whole job before any work starts, clear what you want gone, set donations aside when they're usable and sweep up when we're done. With about a third of Cape houses used seasonally, owners living off-Cape is normal here, so photos and clear instructions are how these jobs get priced and planned.

How much does junk removal cost on Cape Cod?

The price follows how much truck space your junk fills, how heavy it is, how far we carry it and whether there are stairs. Mattresses, TVs and screens, fridges and ACs with refrigerant, and tires cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, so they add to it. Send photos or book a free on-site estimate and you get an exact price before any work begins.

Do you take paint, propane tanks or pool chemicals on Cape Cod?

No. Those are household hazardous waste and they don't go on our truck. Barnstable County holds free hazardous waste collection days from spring through fall, open to residents of every Cape town. Empty or fully dried-out latex paint cans are different: Massachusetts lets dried latex paint go in the trash, so we can take those with the rest of your load.
