On most of the South Shore, getting rid of an old couch means a trip to your town's transfer station, a resident sticker on the windshield and a fee at the booth. Count On Me! does junk removal on the South Shore of Massachusetts from our home base in Assonet: furniture, appliances, mattresses, garage and basement clean-outs, estate clean-outs and renovation debris. We're a family-owned, licensed and insured business with 5+ years hauling junk on the South Shore. Call or text us a photo, get a price before any work begins, and we do all the lifting.

What South Shore homes need

The South Shore we cover is Plymouth County and the towns around it: the coast from Plymouth and Kingston up through Duxbury, Marshfield and Scituate, the inland towns along Route 3 and Route 18, and the Route 24 corridor through Brockton, Bridgewater, Middleboro and Lakeville. From Assonet we reach Brockton and Bridgewater up Route 24 and Plymouth across Route 44. Further north than that? Ask, and we'll tell you.

A lot of South Shore junk lives in garages and basements, and it's heavy: a dead freezer, a treadmill, an old workbench, a sectional that came down the stairs fifteen years ago. Most of it can't go in a town trash bag, and a car or SUV fits a fraction of it. We carry it out, load the truck and sweep the floor you haven't seen in years.

The coastal towns have their own jobs. Beach houses and older cottages in Marshfield and Scituate get emptied when they're sold, rebuilt or handed down, and families out of state need someone to clear them. Estate clean-outs, hot tubs that stopped working and leftover debris after a kitchen or bath remodel are typical South Shore jobs, and each one is more than a car load.

Transfer stations, stickers and bulky items on the South Shore

Every South Shore town handles bulky junk its own way, and most of the coastal towns run a resident-only transfer station. In Hingham, bulky and construction waste is weighed and charged, a residential vehicle can bring no more than 3 cubic yards, and rubble such as tile, brick, granite and cement isn't accepted; mattresses carry a per-item fee and need a valid resident sticker. Scituate's station on the Driftway is for residents with a transfer station sticker, bought with proof of residency. Marshfield's station on Clay Pit Road is for residents who pay the annual trash fee and buy a sticker from the DPW. Plymouth's Manomet Transfer Station needs a vehicle permit for residents enrolled in the town's solid waste program, and mattresses go to a separate facility, charged by weight plus a per-item fee. Each of those works for a car load. None of them comes into your basement.

Massachusetts law adds another layer. Since November 1, 2022, mattresses, box springs and textiles are banned from the trash under MassDEP's waste disposal bans (310 CMR 19.017). Appliances, TVs and CRT screens, tires, scrap metal, yard waste, lead-acid batteries, clean wood, clean drywall, asphalt, brick and concrete are banned too. That's why a load of mixed junk can't just go to one dumpster: it has to be sorted. We sort it, so each item goes where the law says it goes.

What we don't take: household hazardous waste such as oil-based paint, solvents, gasoline, pool chemicals, propane tanks and asbestos. Your town's household hazardous waste collection day handles those. Empty or dried-out latex paint cans are fine; ask us about anything else. We also don't rent dumpsters or do structural demolition.

What junk removal costs on the South Shore

The price follows the load: how much space it takes in the truck, how heavy it is, how far we carry it, and whether it includes items that cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like mattresses, TVs and refrigerators. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate and you get the exact price before we start. How pricing works.

South Shore junk removal questions

Do you do junk removal in all of Plymouth County?

Plymouth County and the South Shore are in our service area, along with Bristol County and Cape Cod. We're based in Assonet, so Brockton, Bridgewater, Middleboro, Lakeville and Plymouth are a short drive, and the coastal towns are a straight run up Route 3. Text us a photo and your town and we'll tell you when we can be there and what it costs, before any work starts.

Do I need a transfer station sticker to get rid of furniture on the South Shore?

If you haul it yourself, usually yes. Towns like Hingham, Scituate and Marshfield limit their transfer stations to residents with a sticker or permit, and bulky items often carry a fee at the booth. Plymouth needs a vehicle permit. If we haul it, you don't need a sticker, a trailer or a free Saturday morning: we carry the furniture out of the house and handle the disposal.

How do I get rid of a mattress on the South Shore?

Mattresses and box springs can't go in the trash in Massachusetts since November 1, 2022; they have to be recycled. Some towns take them at the transfer station for a per-item fee with a resident sticker, and Plymouth sends them to a separate facility. Or call or text us: we carry mattresses out with the rest of your load and make sure they go to recycling.

How much does junk removal cost on the South Shore?

It depends on how much truck space your junk takes, how heavy it is, how far we carry it and whether there are stairs. Items that cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like mattresses, TVs and screens, fridges and ACs with refrigerant, and tires, add to the price. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate and you get an exact price before any work starts.

Can you pick up junk today on the South Shore?

Often, yes. We do same-day pickups when the schedule has room, and South Shore towns along Route 24 and Route 44 are close to our Assonet base. The fastest way to find out is to text a photo of what's going and the address. If today is full, we'll give you the next open slot and the price at the same time.
