In Rhode Island, the drop-off any resident can use for a bulky load is the Resource Recovery Corporation's site in Johnston, home of the Central Landfill, where individual residents pay commercial rates. Count On Me! does junk removal in Rhode Island instead: furniture, mattresses, appliances, apartment and office clean-outs, estate clean-outs and construction debris, carried out of the building and hauled away. We're a family-owned, licensed and insured business based in Assonet, Massachusetts, and we serve all of Rhode Island. Call or text us a photo and you get a price before any work begins.
What Rhode Island jobs need
Our home base in Assonet sits on Route 24, which runs south through Fall River and crosses into Rhode Island at Tiverton. Rhode Island is a short trip for us, and we cover the whole state, East Bay to South County to the northern towns. The rules here are Rhode Island's, not Massachusetts', so we plan each job around them.
City and town bulky pickup in Rhode Island is built for the curb, not for carrying. In Providence, for example, residents can schedule up to three bulky items per unit, crews won't go into your home or yard to get them, and buildings with more than six units aren't eligible for city trash service at all, so the owner has to arrange removal. In Johnston, bulky items, appliances and mattresses go out by appointment with the town's contracted hauler. That leaves a gap: the third-floor couch, the basement full of furniture, the apartment a tenant left behind. That's the work we do.
Landlords and property managers turning over apartments, businesses clearing an office or a storage room, and families emptying a parent's house before a sale all need more than three items at the curb. We carry everything out, load it and sweep up.

Rhode Island disposal rules: RIRRC, mattresses and bulky items
Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) runs the Central Landfill in Johnston, the state's recycling facility and a Residential Recycling Area, which moved to 3 Shun Pike in April 2024. The Residential Recycling Area is self-serve: you unload your own appliances, construction and demolition debris, scrap metal, tires, textiles, electronics and trash. RIRRC says individual residents pay commercial fees there, not municipal rates, and asks you to check its accepted materials and pricing before you go. Each city and town has its own rules on top of that; RIRRC's A to Z lists them town by town.
Mattresses have their own system in Rhode Island. A 2013 state law, Chapter 23-90 of the General Laws, "Responsible Recycling, Reuse and Disposal of Mattresses," set up a recycling program run by the Mattress Recycling Council under the name Bye Bye Mattress. Since 2016 it has collected more than 875,000 mattresses. Residents in 37 of the state's 39 municipalities can drop mattresses at a local transfer station, public works yard or collection event, and two public sites take them from any Rhode Island resident: Tough Stuff Recycling in Pawtucket and the Central Landfill in Johnston. The program also works with junk haulers, retailers and apartment complexes.
Household hazardous waste goes to RIRRC's Eco-Depot: free for Rhode Island households, by appointment, with no commercial waste. That covers paint, gasoline, pool chemicals, small propane cylinders and similar products. We don't take hazardous waste, we don't rent dumpsters and we don't do structural demolition.

Rhode Island junk removal questions
How do I get rid of a mattress in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island has a free mattress recycling program, Bye Bye Mattress, set up by state law. Most cities and towns take mattresses at their transfer station or public works yard, and any resident can bring one to Tough Stuff Recycling in Pawtucket or the Central Landfill in Johnston. If you can't move it yourself, call or text us: we carry it out of the house with the rest of your load.
Can I take my junk to the Central Landfill in Johnston myself?
Yes. RIRRC's Residential Recycling Area at 3 Shun Pike takes appliances, construction debris, scrap metal, tires, electronics and trash, but it's self-serve, so you unload it yourself, and individual residents pay commercial fees, not municipal rates. RIRRC asks you to check accepted materials and pricing first. If you'd rather not rent a truck and wait in line, we haul it for you.
Does my Rhode Island town pick up bulky items?
It depends on the town, and the limits differ. Providence takes up to three scheduled items per unit from the curb, won't enter your home or yard, and doesn't serve buildings with more than six units. Johnston collects bulky items by appointment with its hauler. RIRRC's A to Z page lists each town's rules. When the item is inside, upstairs or one of many, call us.
How much does junk removal cost in Rhode Island?
The price depends on how much truck space your junk takes, how heavy it is, how far we carry it and how many stairs are involved. Items that need special handling, like fridges and ACs with refrigerant, TVs and screens, and tires, cost more to dispose of. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate and you get an exact price before any work starts.
Do you take paint, propane or chemicals in Rhode Island?
No. Paint, gasoline, pool chemicals, propane cylinders and other household hazardous waste go to RIRRC's Eco-Depot, which is free for Rhode Island households by appointment. Book through RIRRC's website. We take everything else that's ordinary junk: furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, scrap metal and clean-out loads, and we tell you up front if anything in your pile can't go on our truck.
Do you really come from Massachusetts to anywhere in Rhode Island?
Yes. We're based in Assonet, on Route 24, which leads straight down to the Rhode Island line, and we serve all of Rhode Island. Text a photo and your address and we'll tell you the price and the first open slot. We do same-day pickups when the schedule has room, so it's worth asking even if you need it gone today.
