Dartmouth's curbside bulky pickup takes four items at most, by appointment, and a mattress at the curb costs $50. That handles a recliner. It doesn't handle a basement, a garage or a whole house. Count On Me! does junk removal in Dartmouth MA from our base in Assonet. Call or text us a photo, get an accurate price before any work begins, and we carry everything out, load it and sweep up. We're family-owned, licensed and insured, with 5+ years hauling junk on the South Shore.
What Dartmouth homes need
Dartmouth is big and spread out: the third-largest town in Massachusetts by area, with about 33,800 people (2020 census) in separate villages. Padanaram and Nonquitt sit on Buzzards Bay, Russells Mills and Hixville are out among the farms, and Smith Mills and Bliss Corner run along the Route 6 and I-195 business strip. A job down a long farm driveway in Russells Mills is a different day from a second-floor carry in Padanaram village, so tell us where you are and how close the truck can get.
North Dartmouth also has UMass Dartmouth on Old Westport Road. If you own or manage a rental near campus, a tenant turnover usually leaves couches, mattresses, desks and bags of clothes that won't fit in an orange SMART bag and can't go to the curb four at a time before the next lease starts.
For estates and downsizing, the town's limits add up fast. Four curbside items per appointment means a houseful of furniture takes weeks of appointments, and the transfer station is open three days a week. We clear basement to attic in one visit, set aside what the family is keeping, and pull out what can be donated.

Dartmouth bulky items, mattresses and the transfer station (and when to call a hauler instead)
Dartmouth runs the SMART program: household trash goes out in orange bags and recycling in two carts. Anything bigger goes through the DPW's Bulky Item Waste Program, by appointment only and capped at four items per pickup. Per the town's rate sheet (effective January 6, 2025), curbside fees are per item: furniture $15, appliances $10, appliances with Freon $20, TVs and computer monitors $15, and $50 for each mattress or box spring. A queen set at the curb is two items and $100.
The Dartmouth Transfer Station at 976 Russells Mills Road is for Dartmouth residents only, open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and needs a permit: free for SMART customers, $50 for everyone else, or a $10 day pass. Furniture, carpet and loose trash are charged by weight with a $13 minimum. Mattresses and box springs are $40 each. Construction debris costs $15 up to 200 pounds and is charged by the pound after that, and the station does not take bricks, concrete, patio blocks or bagged cement. Yard waste goes to a different site, the Water Pollution Control Facility, with branches capped at four inches.
Since November 1, 2022, Massachusetts has banned mattresses and textiles from the trash, alongside appliances, TVs and screens, tires, metal, yard waste and clean construction materials. Every load has to be sorted before it goes anywhere. We do the sorting, the lifting and the trips. We don't take hazardous waste: oil-based paint, solvents and chemicals go to the household hazardous waste drop-off that the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District runs for Dartmouth residents at Crapo Hill Landfill.
What junk removal costs in Dartmouth
The price follows the load: how much space it takes in the truck, how heavy it is, how far we carry it, and whether it includes items that cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like mattresses, TVs and refrigerators. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate and you get the exact price before we start. How pricing works.
Getting started in Dartmouth
- 1
Call or text a photo
Send a picture of what's going and tell us which part of Dartmouth you're in. A long driveway, a second-floor carry or a tight basement stair changes the job, so mention it.
- 2
Get the price first
We price it from the photo or come out for a free, no-obligation estimate. You know the number before any work begins.
- 3
Pick a time
Same-day pickup when the schedule has room; otherwise the next opening that works for you, including around a closing or a lease date.
- 4
We do the lifting
Our crew carries everything out of the house, basement, garage or barn and loads the truck. You don't touch a thing.
- 5
Sweep, sort, recycle
We sweep up, then sort the load: metal, mattresses, electronics and appliances to recycling, usable furniture to donation when we can, the rest disposed of properly.
Dartmouth junk removal questions
Does Dartmouth have bulk item pickup?
Yes, through the DPW's Bulky Item Waste Program, by appointment only, with a four-item maximum per pickup and a fee per item: $15 for furniture, $10 to $20 for appliances, $15 for a TV or monitor and $50 for each mattress or box spring (rates effective January 2025). For more than four items, or a load the curb program won't take, like renovation debris, call or text us a photo.
How do I get rid of a mattress in Dartmouth?
Mattresses and box springs can't go in the trash in Massachusetts. In Dartmouth you can book a DPW curbside pickup at $50 per piece, or drive it to the transfer station on Russells Mills Road with a permit and pay $40 per piece. Or we carry it out with the rest of your load, keep it dry and take it for recycling, priced up front.
How much does junk removal cost in Dartmouth?
It depends on how much truck space your items take, how heavy they are, how far we carry them (stairs, long driveways) and whether the load includes items that cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like mattresses, TVs, fridges and ACs with refrigerant, and tires. Text us a photo or ask for a free on-site estimate and you get an exact price before any work starts.
Should I just use the Dartmouth Transfer Station?
For a car load, it works: residents with a permit can drop furniture, carpet and trash by weight, and construction debris by the pound. It's open three days a week, it doesn't take brick, concrete or patio blocks, and you do the loading, driving and unloading. For a full room, a garage or a renovation pile, having us carry it out is usually the faster day.
Do you take paint, propane tanks or chemicals?
No hazardous waste: oil-based paint, stains, solvents, pool chemicals, gasoline and propane tanks stay off our truck. Dartmouth's transfer station takes propane tanks up to 20 pounds for a fee, and the regional household hazardous waste drop-off at Crapo Hill handles the chemicals. Empty or dried-out latex paint cans are fine; ask Cam about anything else.
