What Freetown and Assonet homes need
Freetown is a town of houses: about nine in ten homes are single-family and roughly 85% are owner-occupied. Nearly half were built between 1970 and 1999, so many households have decades of living stored in basements, garages and sheds. A cleanout here usually means the whole property: the workbench, the chest freezer, the dead riding mower, the swing set, the above-ground pool.
The Freetown-Fall River State Forest covers roughly a third of town, between Assonet and East Freetown, and lots are big: long driveways, back-yard sheds, outbuildings. Tell us how close the truck can get and we plan the carry before we arrive.
Older houses in the Assonet Village Historic District often have narrow stairs, low basements and pull-down attic ladders. Estate cleanouts there are careful carrying: keepers set aside, donations and recycling pulled out, the rest hauled.

Freetown trash rules, the transfer station, and when to call a hauler
Freetown's curbside pickup only takes trash in green Pay-As-You-Throw bags, and bags of 50 pounds or more are left behind with a violation sticker. The town's trash page lists no curbside bulky-item pickup. Furniture, mattresses and appliances go to the Freetown Transfer Station at 49 Howland Road in Assonet, with a resident sticker (two free per household) and a fee per piece.
The town's posted fees add up: $25 for a couch, $20 for a refrigerator, $20 to $35 for a TV, and $10 (crib) to $40 (king) for each mattress or box spring. A full truckload is $110. Family from out of town clearing a parent's house can buy a $20 one-day pass, but they still do the loading, the driving and the unloading.
Massachusetts bans mattresses, textiles, appliances, TVs, metal, tires and yard waste from the trash, and Freetown has no curbside yard waste pickup; leaves and brush go to the transfer station. We sort every load: recycling, donation where we can, proper disposal for the rest.
We don't take hazardous waste: oil-based paint, solvents, chemicals, gasoline, propane tanks or asbestos. Those go to the regional household hazardous waste day at the Crapo Hill Landfill (sign-up required). Empty or dried-out latex paint cans we can take; Cam confirms anything else.

Freetown & Assonet junk removal questions
Does Freetown have bulky item pickup?
The town's trash page lists none. Curbside pickup takes green Pay-As-You-Throw bags only, under 50 pounds each. Couches, mattresses, appliances and TVs go to the Howland Road transfer station with a resident sticker, at a fee per piece. Or we carry it out and haul it for one price, quoted before we start.
How do I get rid of a mattress in Freetown, MA?
Mattresses have been banned from the trash in Massachusetts since November 1, 2022. The Freetown Transfer Station takes them for $10 (crib) to $40 (king) per piece, if you can get them there. Or call or text us: we take mattresses and box springs with the rest of your load and send them for recycling.
How much does junk removal cost in Freetown?
It depends on how much truck space the load takes, how heavy it is, how far we carry it, and whether it includes items that cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like mattresses, TVs, fridges and tires. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate and you get an exact price before any work starts, so there's no surprise when the truck is full.
Can you clear out a whole house in Assonet before a sale?
Yes. We work room by room, set aside anything the family is keeping, pull out what can be donated or recycled, and haul the rest. If you live out of town, send photos of each room and the closing date; we can price from pictures and confirm on site.
