Fairhaven's curbside service won't take a mattress at all, and every other bulky item has to be booked with the town's hauler, E.L. Harvey, and paid for separately. Count On Me! does junk removal in Fairhaven MA from our base in Assonet. We carry out furniture, mattresses, appliances and full house or garage cleanouts and haul them, from Fairhaven Center to Sconticut Neck and West Island. Call or text a photo and you get a price before any work begins.
What Fairhaven homes need
Fairhaven is mostly single-family homes, about 69%, and nearly three in four are owner-occupied. Roughly 40% were built before 1940 and another third between 1940 and 1969. That's a lot of older houses with full basements, attics and garages, and a lot of long-time owners, so estate cleanouts and garage cleanouts are regular jobs here.
Sconticut Neck and West Island run out into Buzzards Bay, outside the harbor's hurricane barrier, and the town's climate vulnerability planning lists them among the most exposed areas. After a storm or a flooded basement, soaked carpet, furniture and drywall have to go, and none of it fits in a trash cart. Once a restoration company has dried things out, we haul the damaged contents away.
Waterfront and seasonal homes bring their own jobs: a dead hot tub, patio furniture, a shed full of beach gear. We carry it out of the yard, load it and clean up the spot.

Fairhaven curbside rules, bulky items, Arsene Street and the Mattapoisett station
Fairhaven's curbside trash has to be inside the cart, one cart per household. Bulky items are picked up only if you book them directly with E.L. Harvey, which invoices $25 for furniture and other non-metal items and $35 for metal and freon items. Mattresses and box springs aren't accepted curbside at all; the town points residents to its mattress recycling program or HandUp Mattress Recycling, and charges may apply.
Appliances, electronics, tires, propane tanks and yard waste go to the Arsene Street Recycle Center, which needs a paid annual sticker and, since May 2026, opens only Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Construction debris, concrete, brick, dirt and rock aren't accepted curbside; the town sends residents to private facilities.
Residents can also use the Mattapoisett Transfer Station with a $50 annual sticker or a $10 day pass: $20 to $60 a load depending on the vehicle, and $40 for each mattress, box spring, TV or computer. It takes items from Fairhaven residents only, with no contractors and no exceptions.
Massachusetts bans mattresses, textiles, appliances, TVs, metal, tires, clean wood and yard waste from the trash, so we sort every load: recycling, donation where we can, proper disposal for the rest. We don't take hazardous waste (oil-based paint, solvents, chemicals, gasoline, propane tanks, asbestos); those go to a household hazardous waste day. Dried-out latex paint can go in your trash.

Fairhaven junk removal questions
Does Fairhaven pick up bulky items?
Only if you book it. Residents schedule bulky pickups directly with E.L. Harvey, which invoices $25 for furniture and other non-metal items and $35 for metal and freon items. Mattresses aren't accepted curbside at all. Several items, a mattress, or no way to get it to the curb? We carry it out and haul it for one price.
How do I get rid of a mattress in Fairhaven?
Mattresses have been banned from the trash in Massachusetts since November 1, 2022, and Fairhaven's curbside service won't take them. The town points residents to its mattress recycling program or HandUp, and the Mattapoisett Transfer Station charges $40 each. Or call or text us: we carry them out with the rest of the load and send them for recycling.
Can I bring junk to the Mattapoisett Transfer Station from Fairhaven?
Only if you're a Fairhaven resident who drives it there yourself, with proof of residency and a $50 annual sticker or a $10 day pass. Mattresses, TVs and computers are $40 each. The station turns away contractors, so no hauler can drop your load there for you.
How much does junk removal cost in Fairhaven?
It depends on how much truck space the load takes, how heavy it is, how far we carry it, and whether it includes items that cost more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like mattresses, TVs, fridges and tires. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate and you get an exact price before any work starts.
Can you haul storm or flood debris on Sconticut Neck or West Island?
Yes, the non-hazardous part: soaked carpet, furniture, drywall and appliances. Fairhaven's curb only takes what fits in the cart and won't take construction-type debris, so a hauler is the practical way to clear it. We don't do water extraction or mold remediation; call a restoration company first, then call us for the haul.
