The yard work is done. Now there's a brush pile the size of a car, thirty bags of leaves along the fence and a broken lawn mower behind the shed. Your curbside program only takes a few bags on certain weeks, and the compost site wants a sticker and a trailer you don't own. Yard waste removal on the South Shore is simple with us: send a photo, get the price before any work starts, and we load all of it, bagged or loose, sweep up and haul it away.

What yard waste removal covers

We take the organic debris from a yard cleanup: brush piles, cut branches and limbs, leaves, grass clippings, hedge and shrub trimmings, pulled vines and weeds, and the Christmas tree that's been on the porch since January. Bagged, in barrels or in a loose pile, it all goes on the truck.

We also take the non-green yard junk that tends to sit in the same corner: old lawn mowers and snowblowers, rusted grills, broken patio furniture, garden hoses, kids' toys, old planters, rolls of fencing and the leftover lumber from last year's project. If you're clearing the whole yard, one visit gets both.

Yard waste is sorted from the rest of the load. Green material goes where it can be composted, metal goes to scrap, and the rest goes to a licensed facility. That's the eco-friendly part of the job, and it's also what Massachusetts requires: yard waste can't go in the trash.

What we don't do: we don't cut down trees, climb them or grind stumps, and we don't do lawn care or landscaping. If a tree needs to come down, call a licensed tree service; if they leave the brush, we can haul it. Stumps, big logs, soil, sod and rocks are heavy, so send a photo and ask before you count on them. We don't take pesticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals or gas cans; those go to your town's household hazardous waste day.

What yard waste removal costs

We don't publish prices, because a pile of dry leaves and a pile of wet logs the same size are very different loads. Send a photo or book a free on-site estimate, and you'll have an exact price before any work starts.

What moves it: volume, meaning how much of the truck the pile fills; weight, since wet leaves, green branches, logs and anything with soil in it are heavy; access, meaning how far we carry it and whether there's a slope, a fence or a narrow side yard in the way; and the non-green items mixed in. Old mowers and snowblowers are welcome, but anything that costs more to dispose of in Massachusetts, like a fridge, a TV, a mattress or tires found behind the shed, adds to the price.

What helps: pile everything in one spot close to the driveway, keep yard waste separate from other junk if you can, and tell us about logs or anything heavy in the first photo.

Why yard waste here needs its own trip

Leaves and yard waste are banned from the trash in Massachusetts. Leaves have been banned from landfills and incinerators since the end of 1991, and other yard waste since the end of 1992 (310 CMR 19.017). They can't go in your trash cart or in a load of junk headed for disposal. They have to be composted, which is why towns run separate yard waste programs and why we sort green material from everything else on the truck.

Town programs are narrow by design. In New Bedford, under the city's 2024 rules, grass, leaves and twigs went out weekly in season in barrels or brown paper lawn bags, never plastic bags or the city carts, and brush was picked up once a month by appointment, with branches no thicker than 4 inches and bundles no longer than 4 feet. Taunton has run free curbside yard waste pickup only a few weeks a year, and its convenience center on East Britannia Street charges for drop-offs. In Dartmouth, residents bring yard waste to the public works site on Russells Mills Road with a transfer station sticker, and it's composted at the Crapo Hill landfill. Every town is different, and rules change; your town's website has the current schedule.

None of that helps with a brush pile the size of a car, a storm's worth of branches thicker than your wrist, or leaves that need to be gone before a closing or a showing. That's when it makes sense to have someone load it all in one visit.

Rhode Island runs its own system. Much of the yard debris there goes to the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation's compost facility at the Central Landfill in Johnston, which charges by the ton. If you're in Rhode Island, we work the same way; we just follow Rhode Island's rules for where it goes.

Yard Waste Removal questions

How do I get rid of a big brush pile in New Bedford or Fall River?

City programs take brush in limited amounts: bundled, tied, cut to length and only on certain days, and some by appointment. For a pile bigger than a few bundles, you'd need a truck or trailer and a trip to a yard waste drop-off that accepts it. Or send us a photo. We load the whole pile, branches and all, in one visit, and it goes where it can be composted.

Can I put leaves and grass in the trash in Massachusetts?

No. Massachusetts has banned leaves from disposal since the end of 1991 and other yard waste since the end of 1992, so leaves, grass, brush and garden waste can't go in your trash cart. Use your town's yard waste collection or compost drop-off, which usually means paper bags or barrels, never plastic, and limited weeks. For a big cleanup, we haul it to be composted.

Do you take branches and logs?

We take branches and limbs of any length, cut or uncut, and we don't need them bundled. Logs are heavy, so tell us about them when you send photos and we'll price the weight in. Large stumps and anything that needs a saw or a crane are a tree service's job; if they leave the brush behind, we'll pick it up afterward.

Do my leaves and yard waste need to be bagged?

No. We load bagged, barreled or loose piles. Bagged leaves are quicker to load than a loose pile, but bagging isn't required. If you do bag them, brown paper lawn bags are best, since yard waste is composted and plastic bags have to be emptied and thrown away separately.

Do you cut down trees or grind stumps?

No. We're a junk removal company, not a tree service or a landscaper. We don't climb, fell or prune trees, grind stumps or do lawn care. Hire a licensed, insured tree service for anything that's still standing. When they're done, if they leave branches, brush or wood behind, call or text us a photo and we'll haul it away.

How much does yard waste removal cost?

It depends on volume, weight and access. A pile of dry leaves by the driveway is a light job; wet branches, logs or soil at the back of the lot are heavier and take longer to carry. Other junk mixed in, like a mower or a grill, is fine and goes in the same price. We don't publish prices; send a photo or book a free estimate for an exact number before any work starts.
